The DFW Chapter of Heroes on the Water were back on our favorite lake at Frito Lay Corporate Headquarters.  Some 50 plus veterans, spouse, children, and volunteers attended this outing hosted by the Valor Team of Frito Lay with lunch provided by the Rotary Club of Allen Sunrise.  The grounds around the lake provide easy shoreline fishing for those not wanting to venture out on the water.  The lake is stocked with largemouth bass, catfish, and koi.  One creative veteran made dough balls and caught several catfish, one turtle, and a Koi.  With folks scattered on the lake and around the shore it is difficult to determine how many fish were caught, but everyone did catch fish.
One of the features of the September outing is a fishing tackle give away to all attending veterans.  During the year we gather up donated fishing rods, reels, tackle boxes, and any other fishing related items for a big giveaway.  This year we had enough for every veteran to receive at least two items.  Scroll through the photos to view many of the participants including kids with fish they caught and one service enjoying his first ride in a kayak.
Many thanks to the Allen Sunrise club for their continued support of Heroes on the Water.
