Allen Sunrise is excited to welcome author Marjorie Herrera Lewis.
Please come join us August 28th at our normally scheduled weekly meeting as we hear about Marjorie's debut historical novel When the Men Were Gone set in Brownwood, Texas, in the 1940's.  It is based on the true story of Tylene Wilson who, in spite of extreme opposition, became a female football coach in a time that most men over 18 and under 45 were off fighting in the war.
Marjorie was hired as the first woman sportswriter with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in 1984, covering the Dallas Cowboys in 1986 and later joining the Dallas Morning News sportswriting staff.  While writing When the Men Were Gone, she became inspired to try her hand at coaching football and was added to the Texas Wesleyan football coaching staff.  She presently teaches media ethics at the University of North Texas.
